We are having an incredible amount of spyware invading our computer in the last couple of days. I suspect either Uncle Bobs or the GLP Refugee Camp. Went into the Refugee Camp tonight and got pop-up after pop-up.
We are running Spy Bot Search and Destroy, and McAfee. Can someone suggest some other adware blockers/destroyers and a good firewall?
Thanks!

PuPP, in the link you gave me there are 3 choices for firewall - Zonealarm, Sygate and Tiny Firewall. Is any one of these better than the other?

The other strange thing happening last night was every time I tried to get into the GLP Refugee Camp, AOL would shut itself down. It was not happening anywhere else. I wonder what's up here?

Hi drummagick,

I've tried all three.

I liked Tiny the best, but you can run 2 at a time if you like for even more security.

Tiny and ZA would be my choice.

Please let me know if any links are down and I'll fix them.

I went there once, and will never go back.

As I waited for the page to load, I went through 7 IP addresses.

I do not trust that site. I'd tell eveyone to stay away, but then they'd claim..."You just want everyone at your forum"

Like I need any more stress and more visitors to monitor.

Also, they have links for Reality Bursts site at that GLP refuge forum.

When I was at GLP and Reality Burst posted his website, I went to visit it, and a remote system with the same IP address as the site tried to get into my computer.

I will never go there again either.

Thanks PuPP. I just saw a post by Ankhy at GLP Camp, and she is having the same troubles I am.

I downloaded AdAware this morning, and now I can't find it to scan with it. I am so computer illiterate! I put it in Program Files. Was that the wrong place for it?

Drummagick, it would have been better to have downloaded it on your desktop, but all is not lost. Go into your program files and get the icon on your desktop.

Go into msconfig to see if it is in your startup group. If not, then you have activate it from program files.

I have to add this: I do not have it activated in startup because of the load. I manually scan by clicking on the desktop icon. When you get it working, don't fail to upgrade every two weeks without fail. Glad you got the Ad-aware program!

drummagick, Go to START button, and click on either My Computer, or Explorer.

Then you can access Program Files.

Locate Adware folder, open it, right click on the exe or adware program file and create a shortcut for your desktop.

BJ1 - thank you! But are you speaking English? lol, just kidding. When I said 'Computer illiterate', I meant 'computer IQ of 50 or so'.

I've already learned a lot this morning. I should be an expert by noon.

I am sorry, Drummagic. I know what you mean about having a computer IQ of 50 or less. Me, too!

2. If you can locate Program Files, click on that and find Ad-aware. That's where you can right click and choose to make a desktop icon.

1. You should have a My Computer icon already on your desktop that will take you to C drive, left click on that and go to your Programs folder.

3. If none of the above works for you, report back here. OK?

Well, I blindly groped my way into Program Files. AdAware had downloaded but was not installed. When I installed it, it created a shortcut to desktop. I ran a scan, and it came up with 896 entries! Holy crap! That has got to be a record!

Thanks so much for your help BJ1 and PuPP!!
