Hi all ..

Heres some lyrics about this subject that sez it all ..

Enjoy ..

Television, Drug of the Free
by Disposable Heroes of Hipocrisy (Michael Franti, 1991)

One nation under god has turned into
one nation under the influence of one drug

(chorus)
Television, the drug of the nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

T.V., it satellite links
our united states of unconsciousness
apathetic therapeutic and extremely addictive
the methadone metronome pumping out
150 channels 24 hours a day
you can flip through all of them
and still there's nothing worth watching
T.V. is the reason why less than ten percent
of our nation reads books daily
why most people think Central America means Kansas
socialism means unamerican
and apartheid is a new headache remedy
absorbed in its world it's so hard to find us
it shapes our mind the most
maybe the mother of our nation
should remind us that we're sitting too close to...

(chorus)
Television, the drug of the nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

T.V. is the stomping ground
for political candidates
where bears in the woods
are chased by grecian formula'd bald eagles
T.V. is mechanized politic's
remote control over the masses
co-sponsored by enironmentally safe gases
watch for the PBS special
it's the perpetuation of the two-party system
where image takes precedence over wisdom
where sound bite politics are served
to the fastfood culture
where straight teeth in your mouth
are more important than the words
that come out of it
race baiting is the way to get elected
Willie Horton or will he not get elected on...

(chorus)
Televison, the drug of the nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

T.V., is it the reflector or the director
does it imitate us or do we imitate it
because a child watches 1500 murders
before he's twelve years old
and we wonder how we've created
a Jason generation that learns to laugh
rather than abhor the horror
T.V. is the place where armchair generals
and quarterbacks can experience first hand
the excitement of video warfare
as the themesong is sung in the background
sugar sweet sitcoms that leave us with
a bad actor taste while pop stars metamorphosize
into soda pop stars you saw the video
you heard the soundtrack
well now go buy the soft drink
well, the only cola that I support
is a union C.O.L.A. (cost of living allowance) on...

(chorus)
Television, the drug of the nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

Back again, "new and improved"
we return to our irregularly programmed schedule
hidden cleverly between heavy breasted
beer and car commmercials
CNNESPNABCTNT but mostly B.S.
where oxymoronic language like
"virtually spotless" "fresh frozen"
light yet filling" and
"military intelligence" have become standard
T.V. is the place where phrases are redefined
like "recession" to "necessary downturn"
"crude oil" on a beach to "mousse"
"civilian death" to "collateral damages"
and being killed by your own army
is now called "friendly fire"
T.V. is the place where the pursuit of
happiness has become the pursuit of trivia
where toothpaste and cars
have become sex objects
where imagination is sucked out of children
by a cathode ray nipple
T.V. is the only wet nurse
that would create a cripple
on...

(chorus)
Television, the drug of the nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

iMichael Franti from ''spearhead'' .. this is one of my fav
spoken word /rap songs ..
hope you like it ..

Hellervision.....too much violence, too much selfishness, too much propaganda; not enough respect, not enough moral behaviour, not enough enlightenment.

The hellervison panders to the lowest common denominator rather than raising community standards.

As a Christian, parent and citizen, I would prefer the hellervision to show 200 acts of heterosexual, consensual sex than one act of violence because I think that it would help remove much of the mystique and obsession with sex by showing it as normal and every day and stop the exposure and desensitisation to violence by removing it from the every day.

Bring back "Leave it to Beaver", "The Honeymooners", "Brady Bunch", "Steptoe and Son", etc where good behaviour was lauded and the rest discouraged by either situation or comedy.

Back in the 50s, i used to enjoy shows like Love that Bob, Gale Storm Show, I Married Joan, Colonel Bleep, Gumby, The Whirlybirds, Burns and allen, The Aboott and Costello Show, and many other innocent and fun presentations.

The reason i liked the Outer Limits and other spooky shows is that it did not require blood and guts. it was the surreal camera angles, mood music, and thought provoking plots.

Nowadays, it is justs Tits, Ass, and violence.

I really enjoyed the Honeymooners.

"One of these days - POW - to the moon!!!"
and, "Baby, you're the greatest!"

What really impressed me was that it was a live show, no retakes to my knowledge. I can only imagine not being poisoned and having the ability and memory to remember those lines each week.

I didn't care much for I Love Lucy, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeanie (though she was the hottest thing on TV to me lol), because they seemed to cause me stress and anxiety and I'd generally feel uncomfortable with their sitcom scenarios.

One of my favorites as well is the classic Twilight Zone series. Outer Limits was ok for awhile but it was almost too freaky and subliminal overtones of how THEY control the tv - yikes! The Night Gallery gave me horrible nightmares, and I liked the 6th Sense series and it was also a bit freaky but interesting.

Rosemary's Baby still creeps me out to this day and I will never watch it again or movies like The Birds, The Exorcist, Saw, The Hills Have Eyes etc.

Mommie Dearest should be burned as well as many more movies and sitcoms. I think to save stuff like that is a waste.

I enjoyed the original Star Trek and the first Star Wars.

I think shows like that are gradually preparing the people to accept the fact that there are other species out there, perhaps not even Extraterrestrials, unknown to modern science and the general public.

Do you think the majority of people are ready for contact yet?

I dunno myself.

Inter-Dimensionals are another possibility of contact.

They could be "Us in the Future"

Outer Limits was the closest thing to a freaky psychedelic experience back in 1963-64. The Control Voice was Vic Perren, who was in many Perry Mason episodes.

I forgot, another absolute favorite was "The Addams Family". My wife and I joke about how we get excited when we hear a thunderstorm and windy weather.

Also, Max Headroom

Favorite movies...That's a whole thread unto itself, but these two are my wife and my favs:

Forbidden Planet - We saw it again recently at the Loew's Giant theater in Jersey City. Wonderful soundtrack, and an incredible storyline

The Fabulous Baron Muchausen - All around favorite. Beautiful sets, humor, and great music

Max Headroom was visionary for its time. I was intrigued when it was just a Coke commercial with broody dystopian overtones. Like most TV shows which actually had any creative content it did not last long, but the impressions it made certainly did. Images from the episodes constantly pop into my mind these days now that I am living that dystopian 20 minutes in the future.

Max Headroom reminded me of a more humorous "Blade Runner".

I really liked the version the avant-garde British sampling band "the Art of Noise", did with "Max", called "Paranoimia"
