UAE sees first ever snow

30dec04

SNOW has fallen over the United Arab Emirates for the first time ever, leaving a white blanket over the mountains of Ras al-Khaimah as the desert country experienced a cold spell and above-average rainfall.

The snow fell over the Al-Jees mountain range in Ras al-Khaimah, the most northerly member of the UAE federation, Dubai airport's meteorology department reported.
The English-language Gulf News reported that the mountain cluster at 1737m above sea level "had heavy night-time snowfall for the past two days as a result of temperatures dropping to as low as minus five Celsius" and stunning the emirate's residents.

On Monday, 12.6 mm of rain fell on the desert emirate of Dubai, where it hardly ever rains.

Police reported 500 accidents on its roads in 24 hours, including one fatality, as a result of a three-day downpour.

A cold spell has hit the country this week, with the mercury plunging to 12C in Dubai on Wednesday night.

The meteorology department, however, said the chilly weather in Dubai, where summer temperatures reach 50C, will probably end by next week.

Wow, that is a lot of rain too.

I bet the desert will explode with plants shortly.

UAE sees snow for first time ever

DUBAI (AFP) Dec 30, 2004
Snow has fallen over the United Arab Emirates for the first time ever, leaving a white blanket over the mountains of Ras al-Khaimah as the desert country experienced a cold spell and above-average rainfall.

Dubai airport's meteorology department told AFP Thursday that snow fell over the Al-Jees mountain range in Ras al-Khaimah, which is the most northerly member of the UAE federation.

The English-language Gulf News reported that the mountain cluster, 5,700 feet (1,737 metres) above sea level, "had heavy night-time snowfall for the past two days as a result of temperatures dropping to as low as minus five Celsius (23 Fahrenheit)" and stunning the emirate's residents.

On Monday, 12.6 millimetres (half an inch) of rain fell on the desert emirate of Dubai, where it hardly ever rains, as police reported 500 accidents on its roads in 24 hours, including one fatality, as a result of a three-day downpour.

A cold spell has hit the country this week, with the mercury plunging to 12 degrees Celsius (53.6 Fahrenheit) in Dubai on Wednesday night.

The meteorology department, however, said the chilly weather in Dubai, where summer temperatures reach 50 Celcius (122 Fahrenheit), will probably end by next week.

We just had 5 cities hit by tornados here in Los Angeles and we've been going through a series of record breaking rainfall storms.

But of course, everythings NORMAL!

Yeah...when I first saw this posted on a thread another forum, I was struck dumb. OK...maybe dumber... but this kind of thing is way beyond weird.

One thing though...this other thread mentioned how closely the sea and atmosphere were related and that the Sumatran EQ and subsquent tsunami could be having a kind of butterfly effect. Just food for thought.

This is bizarre
and may be related to all the moisture in the atmosphere from north polar melt activity over the summer .
There has been snow in a lot of odd places.

Up here in Wa state we have had the mildest warmest winter ever,....so far.
It is just now getting a bit cold and clear
but the mountains are completely barren of the snows of the recent past at ths time of year.
I have never seen so little snow in the mountains.
The Olympics look slushy and it is getting scary that below a certain elevation there is no snow, an elevation now thousands of feet higher than normal .

This still may change with a sudden snowblitz...
but the cold clear nights are not nears as coold and clear as the past.
For this time of year, and for the last few fall and winter months.

Shit is happening faster now,
nothing would surprise me.

According to cable tv news reports, Texas is experiencing a warmer than usual winter too.

Check out this oddity...

The rain stopped on New Years Day in So calif for the Rose parade.

Bob Ubanks announcer said it hasn't rained on the Rose parade in 50 years.

Rain started back up immediately the next day and we're now in a deluge here.

I think we've seen nothing yet.

It would be wise to be prepared for wicked and wild weather wherever you are. It will come overnight and catch many offguard.

Here's the photo image of the snow in the UAE from Dec 2004

One of the messages I was given back in 2002, was that it would snow where it had never snowed before and I would know that it is one of the signs of things to come if we do not change the path we're on.
