Dig for ancient pyramid in Bosnia

Semir Osmanagic is leading the project to uncover the 'pyramid'
Archaeologists have begun digging for what they think might be a pyramid hidden beneath a hill in Bosnia.
Known as Visocica, the 650m (2,120ft) triangular mound, overlooking Visoko, has long been shrouded in local legend.

The Bosnian archaeologist leading the project says it resembles pyramid sites he has studied in Latin America.

Initial excavations have revealed a narrow entrance to what could be an underground network of tunnels.

On Friday, a team of rescue workers from a local coal mine, followed by archaeologists and geologists examined the tunnel, thought to be 2.4 miles (3.8km) long.

The team found two intersections with other tunnels leading off to the left and right.

Their conclusion was that it had to be man-made.

"This is definitely not a natural formation," said geologist Nadja Nukic.

Satellite photographs and thermal imaging revealed two other, smaller pyramid-shaped hills in the Visoko Valley, which archaeologists believe the tunnels could lead to.

Cashing in

Workers also discovered a paved entrance plateau and large stone blocks that could be part of a pyramid's outer surface.

Semir Osmanagic, the project leader, initially made the suggestion the Visocica hill could be a pyramid.

If he is correct, it would be the first pyramid discovered in Europe.

He has already named the three hills the pyramids of the Sun, Moon and Dragon.

Locals have begun to trade on the excitement, selling pyramid souvenirs to tourists and visitors.

The work will continue for around six months, with the first results expected in the next three weeks.

Two experts from Egypt are also due to join the team in mid-May.

Medieval fortress

According to anthropologists there is evidence of 7,000-year-old human settlements in the valley.

German archaeologists also recently found 24,000 Neolithic artefacts one metre below ground.

Mr Osmanagic says the hill is a classic example of cultures building on the top of other cultures.

The town was Bosnia's capital during the Middle Ages, and a medieval fortress used by Bosnian kings sits atop Visocica.

The fortress was built over an old Roman Empire observation post, which in turn was constructed over the ruins of an ancient settlement.

Hi, Darkraveness. I've been following the Bosnian Pyramid story since it broke and gave it the benefit of the doubt for as long as I possibly could. The acrimonious politics and various agendas made it quite difficult to ascertain the objective facts of the case. However, I now tend to agree with Robert Schoch's assessment that the Bosnian pyramids are simply natural formations which take on an artificial appearance due to selective excavating. The geology of the area indicates formation in the Miocene which can be verified by diagnostic fossils. This would not, in itself, preclude a later modification of a preexisting landform, but as far as I know, Mr. Osmanagic has not produced any artifactual evidence to back up his assertions. The inscriptions in the tunnel are extremely dubious and according to Schoch and others they are of very recent origin. Of course, the Roman and Medieval ruins are not in question with regard to their antiquity but Osmanagic's project has not focused on those nor included them. I can see no connection with Mesoamerican culture at all aside from the fact that the Mayans did incorporate existing caves, hills etc. into their constructions. Still nothing I have seen indicates a cultural affiliation. The Roman ruins would be the closest thing to a contemporary culture with the Maya Pre-Classic but again there's no obvious link that I can see. Osmanagic's claim of 26, 000 year old Illyrians is a stretch but even that I'd be willing to consider in light of other hints of advanced Ice Age culture such as the inscribed stones of the Arudy and Trois Freres caves of France. But again Osmanagic has not produced any similar artifacts that can be verified. It is my conclusion that until Osmanagic comes up with something more substantial this must be considered a natural formation modified only in relatively very recent times.

It was difficult for me to arrive at that due my similar problems in making the case for artificial modifcation of the buried walls at Rockwall. The earliest artifact that I can definitely associate with those walls only date to around 1725 and have little if anything to do with artificial modification. I have made some progress in dating the apparent architectural features of the upper sections to at least the Terminal Pleistocene but the "smoking gun" of a definitive artifact has thus far eluded me though I continue to look. Thus I hold Osmanagic to the same standards that I impose upon myself. Hopefully, my comments do not disappoint you, but we must be stringently honest in appraising these ancient enigmas.

Hello Darkraveness... scratchinghead.gif It's definitely a modified hill, but it's difficult for me to tell, without totally excavating the site, whether or not it's a pyramid.

There are pyramid-like structures all over the world including Italy and other parts of Europe, so there could very well be pyramids in Bosnia.

Check the cracks and crevices Tex. Also look for any suspicious looking stones. I've found artifacts hidden tucked into secret compartments in behind loose stones. There's also been some artifacts found in a few of the crevices in the walls of the Hudson Valley stone chambers. whistlingNEW2.gif

They got this new handheld battery operated micro camera inspection tool by Milwaukee at stores like Home Depot that costs something like $500 that would be perfect for looking into tight spaces. The camera is digital and has a built in light and a tiny TV screen, but can also be hooked up to a laptop which is pretty cool. winkNEW.gif

I'm gonna get me one of them things with some extra flex cable once I get some funding.

Good to hear from you again, Darmon Ving! The problem I have with Rockwall is finding some new exposures of the walls that I can access. I have an excellent place to investigate on public property which I deduced from my map studies but all kinds of automotive, weather and other obstacles have delayed my expedition. Conditions are again turning favorable for a trip down there in the next couple of months. Meanwhile I now have access to a long sought cave in a fault near the Sulphur River which is much closer and hopefully related. Had I the opportunity to examine a section of wall with some degree of privacy, I have no doubt that I could find a whole arsenal of smoking guns with no high tech needed. I just have a knack for that sort of thing.

Currently I have been communicating with a Dutch researcher who has turned up some hard evidence in Peru which I think you will find interesting. I have found some very strange correlations with Rockwall including magnetic stones and an apparent stone melting technology. Here's the link:

These guys are really on to something.

waving.gif Hello Tex... Sorry for the delay... Santa was a little late with my present... one of them new micro laptops. blinkNEW.gif

I've got one site that has some signs of having been exposed to high heat
with some of the rock face having a melted appearance. Very unusual.

I look forward to you posting some photos here, Ving. Have you been keeping up with all the late breaking news on the airburst cometary event at the end of the last Ice Age? The signature nanodiamonds, black mat, shocked quartz, and odd soot layer have been popping up in Venezuela, Germany and even at Hall's Cave here in Texas. The Hall's Cave report came late last year from the primier dating specialist whose private lab has been used by the mainstream pros for years. I'm sure they are going to choke up on his latest departure from their dogmatic views. I first ran into him when his dates for the skeleton found in Brazoria County, Texas confirmed that it was the oldest skeleton yet found in North America. I reached a new level of infamy when I broke the news to the cackling curmudgeons here in the Lone Star State. It took them about three years to do the damage control and sink it in the Black Hole of public awareness. Of course this doesn't even take into account the pre-human skull from Lake Chapala, Mexico that Solarzano reported just before Gonzalez' 40,000 year old mantracks near Valsequillo which was kind of a flash in the pan overshadowing another Gonzalez' discovery of Clovis skeletons in a submerged cave in Yucatan. Still no dates forthcoming for those. Wonder why? I don't.
