One day I realized that though most of the stuff on the home made barbies n forges was all high tech in that they had cement n gas or propane firing. Cool if you have the money, but what I wanted was the KISS principal, and wood fired.
And as simple as possible from non usable materials so having three or four old outdated gas bottles laying around, n an angle grinder.

So after some trial n error TADA?

They are rough but they work.

In the beginning I tried a long one it worked and also through out a lot of heat but?
The next tries were the small one in the long one from an old caravan gas bottle and a cut down cast top from an old stove. The cut down minni grill works with the upright as well.
The upright you will notice has an and old flue pipe for draw and doors to adjust heat or fire flow, bye the way theses gas bottles throw a lot of heat

Oh n notice the old truck rim as a base stand. But has been recently replaced with a steel bench

A bit of a close up,

Like I said rough as guts, but they work, looks are not important to me but function is. I have also since this shot removed the Curved top piece as it actually reduces the air flow or draft if you will.
On the tall one as well though; it is actually: to tall for a practical cooker it makes a great heater they all do

I've already buried the first of my kayaks filled with survival gear and khukris were among the items because they are much more than a weapon. They are a nice tool if the blade is sharpened correctly - hollow ground in the concave curve and tip, convex ground along the convex curve. This means that they have a super sharp tip for skinning, a strong edge for chopping and another super sharp curved edge for cutting. The concave curve gives them great stability when cutting and there is less risk of injury from slips and in a survival world even a slight injury is a death risk.

I picked mine up in India in the 60's. Despite years of use and abuse the blades and handles are still in excellent condition but the leather of the scabbards fell apart long ago. I would recommend replacing the leather on the scabbards with a man-made cloth so that it will not rot in the field.

Here's a survival tip I learned from my dad. The family lived in a lumber camp for a while in the 1920s. My pop was a little kid and had a mishap with an axe, sliced his leg pretty badly and was bleedin like mad. Grandpa spat out his big old wad of chewin tobacco and slapped it on the wound and it stopped the bleeding.

Lumber was a dangerous occupation in the old days and it's still dangerous today.

Any advice like that from someone who lived through it is worth noting.
